6 Surviving Tips for College from a Girl Who is Also Surviving

By: Johanne Ruth Geronca

College is totally about survival. Nobody ever prepared us for this. From being excited to feeling "I just wanna end this". We have been there but I'm sure we're gonna make it.

So here's 6 tips I wish I knew before entering college.

Plan your schedule

Being planned is tantamount to being prepared.

I was told a couple of times but I did not listen. This time, I learned it a hard way. Planning your schedule helps you become organized with the workloads you are about to face. This will help you be aware of your tasks and deadlines. This would also lessen your stress and procrastination waiting for the motivation to get things done.

You can have a daily planner or a to-do list. Take note of all of your deadlines and things to do. This way, you are on top of your tasks and will not miss anything. Deadlines are important in college. It's okay if you have fun and party, as long as you are aware of your deadlines. Your planner is really your bestfriend.

One best way I also do to schedule my day is using time blocking. Time blocking is a method that divides your day into blocks of time. This means you have to schedule what you are going to do in each hour. This includes your work, leisure and rest. Time blocking is really important so that you can give time to all aspects that you need.

Always start your day right

If there's one thing I have learned during the pandemic, that is the power of starting your day right. Get that morning sun, do stretching and exercise, take a moment of your time to meditate, and journal.

The morning sun helps increasing your mood. Doing a 15-20 minute movement before starting your day is really helpful both for your body and mind. It can also help your day’s productivity.

In college, days are always long and exhausting. That's why you should start it right so you have enough energy throughout the day. This will help you become prepared of all the challenges you're going to face within the day.

Starting your day right and keeping a positive mindset and hopeful aura will make the day even better.

Make friends

College is about establishing connections. This will not only help you in college but also help you become prepared in the real world. Making friends in college is really a life hack.

Your friends in college really matter as you will be them throughout your college journey. They will be your confidant with all the stresses, pressures as well as fun.

In my case, I am lucky to have met good friends in college.

Don't limit yourself to meeting new people in college. Your college friends will not only be there on your college journey, they will be your friends even after graduation.

Believe in yourself

Always believe in yourself. In college, you would doubt yourself a thousand times.

Can I do it? Can I finish college? Will I pass this subject?

Surely, you can. Just believe in yourself and never doubt your potential.

College is your training for the real world.

Learn about confidence, develop new skills, improve your social skills. These will be helpful after you graduate.

Never ever doubt yourself. That's a tip!

Give yourself a time to rest

One thing I have neglected and I believe most college students would also agree, that is to give ourselves time to rest. We often overwork ourselves with all the tasks that we forget we do need rest too. From sleeping only 3 hours a day or even no sleep at all. These are all just trainings, the real world is more difficult. That's why reserve your energy. Rest when you can.

A life hack I do is, I don't force myself to do a task when I don't feel like it. I take a nap in between so I will have enough energy to finish the task.

Have fun!

Lastly, have fun. Your college life won't last forever.

Do anything you want.

Meet new friends, enjoy, party.

I swear, you would miss it when you are faced with responsibilities.

This is just the beginning.

As I end blog, I just want to say..

You can do it!

Love,
